R.I.P. Jagjit Singh

“The Ghazal King” Jagjit Singh passed away last week…

Wikipedia says – He is credited for the revival and popularity of ghazal, an Indian classical art form, by simplifying the complex form of ghazals into a simpler form of ghazals by amalgamating ghazal and geet.

Leaving aside all the complexities of the genre…I have something really personal to say…

I hated his songs….I hated them from the bottom of my heart because –

# Every time he sings(I was listening to him while drawing), he trespasses into my innermost soul…

# Every time he sings, it seems he is singing about me and letting everything out…what the heck! I never spoke to him in my life…

# Every time he sings, he brings alive all the unpleasant memories and puts them right in front of my photographic mind…

# Every time he sings, he touches some unknown cord of my heart and makes me hum along with him…uncanny!

# Every time he sings, there is an uncontrollable stream of saline water out of nowhere…

And I hate crying because you all know the musty saying…”when you cry, you cry alone…”

Without further ado, let’s take a look at two of his most hateful songs…
