It’s the movie director Apichatpong Weerasethakul this week!

Hi everyone!

First, my heartfelt condolences to all the people who lost their lives in the most disastrous train accident in India. Almost 100 passengers were killed and 200 injured when the Mumbai-bound Gyaneshwari Express was deliberately derailed by a terrorist group inside the country. I don’t want to get into any details of the group here. This is beyond my limited understanding of political situations. However, I too feel that we might be heading towards a civil war. May the souls of the dead rest in eternal peace.

Now coming back to the celebrity of the week. It’s the Thai movie director Apichatpong Weerasethakul this week! Here he is…

His film Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives was the surprise winner of the Palme D’Or last week. This movie narrates the final days of a man dying of kidney failure as the ghost of his dead wife appears to care for him, while his long-lost son returns in the form of a monkey.

The most important thing here is that he was an artist before becoming a filmmaker. No wonder Tim Burton fell for him 😉
